Mirabela Nickel orders mill for Brazilian project

Australian newcomer Mirabela Nickel said it has awarded the contract for the purchase of the mill for its Santa Rita nickel sulphide project in Brazil to Finland??s Outokumpu Technology. The contract is valued at $21.0m and has been placed before completion of the definitive feasibility study, which gives some idea of the company??s confidence in how the study is progressing.
        The study is due to be completed in May of this year but the company said it has estimated preliminary costs for the project at around $223m.
       A preliminary study estimated Santa Rita would be capable of producing 16,000tpy of nickel with start-up pencilled in for early 2009. The mill contract award is in keeping with this time-table and should ??significantly de-risk the implementation schedule for the project,?? Mirabela said.
